Manchester Children’s Book Festival 2010
The 2010 Manchester Children’s Book Festival was the first of its kind to run in the north west of England. Children, teachers, parents and grandparents enjoyed a four-day programme of events and activities featuring many favourite children’s writers, illustrators, books and characters.
The Festival was the idea of Poet Laureate Carol Ann Duffy: “Children are our first readers, our most passionate audience… It is in childhood that we learn to love reading. I’ve worked with children for years as a poet and I have probably written more for children than I have for adults. I thought that a children’s book festival would be a fantastic thing to give to a city.” With the support of her team at Manchester Metropolitan University, Carol Ann did just that.
